Gonzales Bay Grotto
Modern Home Addition
In this remarkable project, which was voted as one of Dwell Magazine’s ‘Most Popular Houses Of 2023’, Architect Bruce Greenway was tasked with adding an extension to a home perched on bedrock. The solution was to use rock fragments from the bedrock to construct a gracefully curving wall that extended into the house, thus enabling the creation of a private wing, designed for both work and leisure. Set on an expansive plateau, with much farmland and mountain views, this home is the centrepiece of a property that also features a 1,200 ft cottage, several outbuildings, a former pig barn and a paddock. Read more

This home, affectionately named “The Lighthouse,” graces Vancouver Island’s easternmost point, boasting 280° views of the Strait of Georgia. The one-acre “L”-shaped plot demanded thoughtful construction due to protective measures around the rock. The 6,100 sq ft house was constructed above ground, seamlessly integrating it with the rugged topography. Read more
