D’Ambrosio Architecture + Urbanism
Capturing this project was one of the most gratifying photoshoots of my photography career. It’s always a thrill to be onsite, from pre-sunrise to sunset, to capture such a remarkable piece of architecture – and in this case, one that combines civic, commercial and residential elements.
Built onto land that had previously held an unused works yard, this remarkable project now serves as a vital hub within the town of Esquimalt, a community within the capital region of Victoria.
The use of ‘mass timber’ reduced Aragon’s CO2 emissions and holds dozens of residential units, 35,000 sq. ft. of office space and a new (and very special) public library, which uses wood sourced from sustainably managed forests. The residential units have generous outdoor space and access to rooftop patios with breathtaking views of the nearby Salish Seaway. Residents also have access to a plaza, art walk and pedestrian paths, alongside cultural events
