This home, affectionately named “The Lighthouse,” graces Vancouver Island’s easternmost point, boasting 280° views of the Strait of Georgia. The one-acre “L”-shaped plot demanded thoughtful construction due to protective measures around the rock. The 6,100 sq ft house was constructed above ground, seamlessly integrating it with the rugged topography.
Indoors, the house showcases exquisite design choices, including expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, a custom-made wine room, and an impressive 28-foot wood-burning fireplace.
A specially crafted wide plank floor in the living room and kitchen seamlessly blends three wood styles with meticulous treatments to add a distinctive touch to the predominantly concrete flooring throughout the house.
The home adeptly combines a modern, “industrial” aesthetic with the inviting warmth of a traditional farmhouse. To meld these two contrasting styles, sleek glazed black steel and contemporary finishes are used, thus establishing crisp lines throughout. Distinctive touches abound, including a Moroccan tile backsplash in the kitchen, antique brass hardware throughout and a deep green laundry room. All elements come together to exude both warmth and refinement.
