Several years ago, the Cowichan Public Art Gallery Society (CPAG), a non-profit organization rooted in its commitment to promoting the arts, embarked on a visionary journey with the overarching goal of establishing a world-class public art gallery nestled within the Cowichan Valley. This undertaking sought not only to redefine the cultural landscape of the region but also to provide a platform for ongoing international, national, and local art exhibitions.
This vision was realized in early 2023 when the doors of the gallery opened to the public for the first time. Playing a pivotal role in the realization of this dream was David Coulson Design, a long-term client of mine, who developed the project. The challenge was not merely to document a physical space but to capture the essence of a gallery that aimed to showcase many memorable pieces of art. Adding to the significance of the shoot for me was the fact that the grand opening of the gallery was to occur the following day.
It was a privilege to capture the gallery in this initial phase. There are also ambitious expansion plans toward offering an increasingly diverse range of art exhibitions. Such a cultural renaissance promises to invigorate the artistic spirit of the community while augmenting tourism in the area.
