Atlanta Contemporary

Monumental and Intimate Design

This past April, I had the privilege of co-facilitating a two-day architecture and design photography workshop in Atlanta alongside colleagues Wayne Capili and Fraser Almeida. As part of our preparation, we explored this exceptional residence as a personal project, each bringing our unique perspective to the space. surroundings.

The home, designed by renowned architect Robert Tretsch III of Harrison Design for this 1.19-acre site adjacent to protected Standing Fort Peachtree land, proved an ideal subject for our exploration. Its striking exterior pairs Meridian brick with black reflective wall panels—the first Nichiha Miraia installation in the United States.

Inside, three stories of Windsor commercial-grade glass and steel frame the natural beauty beyond. The architecture is precisely oriented for optimal east-to-west exposure, ensuring natural light sculpts every space throughout the day. Morning light floods the primary suite’s floor-to-ceiling glass, while afternoon sun transforms the dramatic dining room that appears to float above the living spaces.

The custom designed kitchen on the main level, centres around a 15-foot island in Temmer marble. The lower level opens to a 65-foot pool through expansive glazing, demonstrating how thoughtful design harnesses natural light as a primary material, creating spaces both monumental and intimate.
